History of Russia: Unique ancient Russian manuscripts at the Pushkin House

Exhibition of unique ancient Russian manuscripts kicked off on October 18 2010 at the Pushkin House. Among the exhibits put on show are – the manuscript the Life of Protopope Avvakum, Gospel of Tsarevna Sophia, the Life of Alexander Nevsky with the Tale of the Destruction of the Russian land.

These and other examples of ancient Russian culture were discovered by the founder of the Antiquities Repository of the Pushkin House, Doctor of Philology, Honored Science Worker of Russia, Vladimir Malyshev. The conference “Malyshev Readings” too opened on October 18 2010 to mark his 100th birthday anniversary.

Today the Antiquities Repository founded by V. Malyshev in the Pushkin House numbers over 12 000 manuscripts spanning 12th-20th cc. It was due to his contribution that in Moscow, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Syktyvkar, Yaroslavl were set up archeographic scientific centers.
