Russian language abroad: National seminar of Russian language teachers kicks off in Austria

The National seminar of Russian language and Literature teachers of Austrian comprehensive schools opened on November 16 2010 in Raach am Hochgebirge, a town in the central part of Austria. Forum has brought together pedagogues from all federal lands of Austria.

One of the seminar’s organizers, professor Erich Pointner, underscores that the popularity of the Russian language in Austria is growing fast, and for the last year the number of pupils who learn Russian language went up to 7 000.

Seminar welcomes for participation workers of major Russian universities with teaching of Russian as a foreign language – the A.S. Pushkin Russian Language State Institute of the St. Petersburg State University, the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. This year they will have the whole day for presentation of a special program “Methodological school for qualification improvement of Russian as a Foreign Language Teachers in Austria”.

What is more, following the tradition the seminar will bring together major Russian publishers, specializing in methodological literature for teaching Russian as a foreign language.
