Regions of Russia: Interregional scientific and practical conference kicks off in Vladimir

The Interregional scientific and practical conference “Vladimir Oblast libraries during the Great Patriotic War” timed to 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was launched on November 9 2010 at the M. Gorky Vladimir Regional Scientific Library.

The key aim of the conference is to revive the history of libraries’ work during the war years, highlight the role of the book, which became an ideological and spiritual weapon in the struggle against fascism, preserve the memory of those who in that hard time dedicated their lives to promotion of books and did their outmost to bring the victory closer.

During the conference its participants summed up materials which cast the light on the work of the Vladimir Regional Scientific Library during the war, reviewed local lore editions spanning 1941-1945, highlighted the project undertaken by the Ivanovo Regional Scientific Library on digitization of war-time books. During the event were delivered reports by librarians of the Nizhniy Novgorod, Ivanovo oblasts, teachers of secondary educational institutions.

Moreover, within the framework of the conference took place an award ceremony of laureates of the regional innovation contest “Libraries, books, people during the years of the Great Patriotic War”.
