Archives: Russian Academy of Sciences Archives mount exhibition in Moscow
Documentary exhibition “Russian biologists in the Institute Pasteur” opened on November 8 2010 at the exhibition hall of the Russian Academy of Sciences Archives in Moscow.
The exhibition has been organized within the framework of the events focused on the Year of France in Russia. The exposition casts the light on one of the pages of the history of traditional and multifaceted scientific ties of two countries – the contacts in the field of biology. This very area was chosen due to significant contribution of Russian scholars to the world of microbiology and their joint work in this field with one of the world-famous scientific centers of France – the Institute Pasteur.
The exposition brings into focus about 300 documents from the holdings of the Russian Academy of Sciences Archives and the N. Vavilov Museum, a number of documents have been received from the Institute Pasteur. These are sets of documents from the funds of I. Mechnikov, S. Vinogradsky, N. Gamaleya, L. Tarasevich. Exhibits include the memories and diary notes concerning the work of Mechnikov and his wife Olga Mechnikova in France, the documents which turn the light on the work of Louis Pasteur, correspondence between Émile Roux and Ilya Mechnikov, scientific works in Russian and French languages, diaries of scientific experiments and observations, portraits and drawings by O. Mechnikova, numerous photographs of Russian and French scientists with inscriptions; materials of the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg and its Plague Laboratory in Kronstadt; certificates and medals, including a medal commemorating the 100th anniversary of Louis Pasteur.
