President of Russia: Dmitry Medvedev proposes to raise an issue of intellectual property protection on the Web
President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev is suggesting adding an extra item on the agenda of the G-20 summit to take place in Nice, June 2011, and namely the issue that concerns protection of intellectual property on the web. What is more, the President comes up with a proposal to formulate new decisions as international conventions. Dmitry Medvedev presented his proposal during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“It is obvious that old regulatory principles in the field of intellectual property do not work, especially when it comes to Internet, it threatens to collapse the whole copyright system, therefore right at the next G-20 summit we need to include this issue on the agenda and offer the world community new solutions, to be later formulated as international conventions”, Dmitry Medvedev mentioned.
He also stressed, that Russia would not support initiatives that undermined the freedom on the Web.
“Russia will not support initiatives that cast doubt on the freedom on Internet, freedom, that is based on requirements of morals and legislation”, - said the President. He added that restriction of freedom on Internet or spreading of innovations “will lead the world to stagnation”.
