Internet resources: .рф domain zone registers 700 000 domain names

On December 31 2010 .рф domain zone registered 700 000th domain name.

It took the Cyrillic domain less than 2 months after the launch of the open registration to manage 700 domain names. The № 700 000 domain name is currently unknown.

On November 16 2009 Russia submitted an application on delegation of the national Cyrillic domain of the top level, while the priority domain names registration for Russian state authorities, trademark and Mass Media owners kicked off on November 25 2009 and lasted for 9 months. The stage came to an end with 18 000 registered domain names.

Open domain names registration which commenced on November 11 2010 turned out to be above any expectations. The very first day saw over 200 000 registered domain names.

An excitement about the domain is gradually going down. However, the zone is said to continue its development increasing daily by 2 000 domain names.

“Registration of a “jubilee”, one millionth domain is expected to happen in the first half of 2011, most likely before an official birthday of .рф domain zone – May 12, when ICANN delegated a new zone”, - says Alexei Korolyuk, Reg.ru’s CEO.
