14 February 2011

The Chelyabinsk Regional Local Lore Museum has launched an exposition called “Images of Russians and French during World War I”.

The exhibition showcases rare photographs showing the arrival, everyday life and fighting of Russian soldiers and officers in France. The exposition is based on reportages of French photographers, mostly dedicated to 1st and 3rd infantry brigades of the Russian Expeditionary Corps. They were fighting against the Germans during 1916-1918 as a part of the French army in Europe.

What is more, the exposition features photographs taken by the French who took part in the French military mission in Siberia in 1918-1920. In the spotlight of French photographers are Vladivostok, Chita, Irkutsk, Semipalatinsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Ufa and Arkhangelsk.

The exposition is launched by the Center of French Language and Culture “Alliance Française Yekaterinburg”, which is supervised by the Embassy of France in Russia.
