Regions of Russia: Chuvashia holds events timed to the Year of Russian Cosmonautics
On March 12, 2011 the National Library of Chuvash Republic opened a series of events timed to the Year of Russian Cosmonautics and celebration of 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space.
The event aims to promote a significance of space exploration by Russia, revive interest to its space programs, promote literature dedicated to Russian scholars, designers, cosmonauts, attract attention to the celebration of 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space.
The series of events will involve the following competitions: a photo competition “A Magic World of Nature, or Space starts on Earth”; a contest of out-of-school activities, lessons “Salute to Cosmonautics”; a contest of presentations “Space – a dream of mine”; a book review contest “Dedicated to Russian cosmonautics”; a contest of poems and songs “Apple trees will bloom on Mars too”.
In addition, the event will feature a videoconference “In a school’s orbit” and a scientific and practical conference “Breakthrough into Space”.
For more detailed familiarization with editions on cosmonautics the National library has prepared an electronic exhibition “A Man and the Universe”. Its materials cast the light on the history of cosmonautics, contribution of scholars and feat of cosmonauts. Editions are available through 4 sections: “The Morning of Space Era”, “Space and People”, “Mystery-free Astronomy”, “Cosmonautics through inventions”.
