
Peoples of Russia: Kazan mounts “Topical ethnography” exhibition
On March 3 2011 Kazan launched an exhibition called “Topical ethnography”.
“Topical ethnography” is a travelling exhibition of modern art which unites authentic heritage and multimedia technologies, traditions and innovations. Kazan – is the first city to host a joint project launched by the Volga Branch of the National Center for Contemporary Arts and the Institute of Civil Society Problems.
The exposition features 74 works. One of the aims pursued by the exhibition is to give an opportunity to learn about national customs and traditions from an unexpected angle, turn attention of the young people to that layer of culture and national consciousness, which exists side by side with them.
The exhibition includes three sections – “Relatives”, “Granny Liza/Granny Nastya”, “Video-census of the Buranovo village”. They put on display photographs which show bearers of authentic folklore of different peoples, who live in the Udmurt Republic (the Kryashens, the Tatars, the Besermans, the Russians and the Mari), and the Udmurts; art and musical creative works; documentary filming of Buranovo villagers, Malaya Purga district, the Udmurt Republic.
After the display in Kazan the “Topical ethnography” exhibition will travel to Kirov, Nizhniy Novgorod, Glazov, and Izhevsk.
