The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Friday, for the preservation of Russia’s historical heritage.

The Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War is a constituent and at the same time an important part of the Victory memorial ensemble on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. An idea of unveiling a public monument was expressed for several decades, and it was in March 1986 that the Ministry of Culture signed an order “On Foundation of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, which predetermined the establishment of the museum as a part of the Victory ensemble on Poklonnaya Hill.

The monument consists of four expositions: military and historical, diorama, art gallery and exposition of military hardware.

In his congratulatory message the Head of the state emphasized that over the years of its existence the museum had become one of the largest military and historical museums in the world, and a famous cultural center of the Russian capital city.

On March 4 2011 the museum is launching festive events to commemorate its anniversary.
