Internet resources: “Yandex” debuts its own e-maps
April 18, 2011 “Yandex” search engine has launched its own electronic maps, thus turning down map services previously offered by other cartographers.
Search engine’s key bonus from transition to its own cartography is a dramatic optimization of Moscow maps’ updates. “Yandex” spokesman says that maps of Moscow and Moscow Oblast available on “Yandex” will be updated on a monthly basis.
This step makes “Yandex” the most prompt map service countrywide. Monthly update is far better that that of “Google.Maps” or “Yandex.Maps” before. What is more, monthly update offered by “Yandex” is also better than that of map services for GPS navigation.
An opportunity to launch its own map services opened up as “Yandex” purchased “GIS Technologies” in July 2010.
Making use of “GIS Technologies” developments by late 2011 “Yandex” is planning to release maps of “all major cities” of Russia. As for today “Yandex” has updated maps of Moscow and 204 localities of Moscow Oblast.
