IT: Open Virtualization Alliance created
World’s largest IT companies have announced the formation of the Open Virtualization Alliance committed to fostering the adoption of open virtualization technologies. The alliance is expected to create a complete set of open software, supporting most popular Intel and AMD processors, which would enable to create from scratch and run the virtualized platform within a datacenter.
Open Virtualization Alliance features Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Red Hat, Suse, Eucalyptus, IBM and BMC Software.
The announcement of the Alliance reads that developments will be based on KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Mashine). In the first place Alliance members will start developing products for Linux and Windows virtualization.
Members of the Open Virtualization Alliance have a common interest in supporting open virtualization, and are involved in the development, distribution, support, use, or other business interest in KVM or offerings which use it. The Open Virtualization Alliance will provide education, best practices and technical advice to help businesses understand and evaluate their virtualization options.
