Celebration of Victory Day in the capital city of Austria was marked by opening of a new monument. “To valiant Soviet Airborne troops. Grateful Viennese” – reads the sign on a memorial plaque unveiled at the foot of the Reichsbrücke, which was used in April 1945 by the Soviet troops to cross the Danube, who with a swift rush liberated the city.
The memorial plague features bronze bas-relief, which shows the moment of the battle for the Reichsbrücke. The project’s authors are St. Petersburg residents – Honored Architect of Russia Vladimir Mukhin and artist Vladimir Philippov.
