Russian culture abroad: Program of work with compatriots living abroad for 2012-2014 approved

On June 28, 2011 at Russia’s Foreign Ministry was held a meeting of the Government Commission on Affairs of Compatriots Living Abroad.

The meeting approved the draft of the Program of work with compatriots living abroad for 2012-2014 prepared by the inter-agency working group. Under the recently updated Federal Law “On State Policy of the Russian Federation regarding Compatriots Living Abroad” the draft increases emphasis on further consolidation of public associations of compatriots, development of partnerships with Russian Diaspora abroad, improvement of information activities, closer attention to young people and veterans. After agreement with interested federal executive bodies the document will be introduced to the Government of the Russian Federation.

The commission addressed the issues concerning preparation of the International Conference of Compatriots on the Status of Russian Language in Foreign Countries (Moscow, October 2011), and also heard the report on activities held by Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency on the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation) on preservation of burial places abroad which have a historical and memorial importance for the Russian Federation.
