Memory of Russia: Historical Early Middle Ages Festival “First Capital of Russia” mounted in Staraya Ladoga

On June 25-26, 2011 “Staraya Ladoga” Museum Reserve (Leningrad Oblast) held an annual Historical Early Middle Ages Festival “First Capital of Russia”.

This event is the largest historical Middle Ages festival in the northwest of Russia. It keeps and develops the tradition of annual historical re-enactment festivals in Staraya Ladoga, and is called to let its visitors get acquainted with the sources of Russian statehood, mode of life and military traditions of people living in ancient Russia and its first capital, history and culture of the northwest of Russia. Participants of the festival are historical re-enactment clubs from various cities and towns of Russia and Near Abroad, craftsmen, historians.

The festival has been organized by the World Heritage Saving Fund, “Staraya Ladoga” Museum Reserve, “Varyagi MS” motorcycle club etc.
