Regions of Russia: Children’s Historical Festival “Velikiy Bolgar” debuts in Tatarstan

On June 25-26, 2011 the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum Reserve (Tatarstan) is holding the First Republican Children’s Festival “Velikiy Bolgar”. The event has attracted over 400 schoolchildren from all the corners of the Republic.

There festival provides a wide choice of entertainment on the territory of the ancient town:

- masters’ fair, where all visitors can take part in master classes of national handicrafts;

- non-stop music performances of folklore teams;

- historical performances, master classes of theatre arts;

- the League of Students of the Republic of Tatarstan which acquaints children with all the interesting aspects of life of the youth.

Children can take part in folk games, dances and tournaments of historical re-enactors, become a participant of a contest concert, brain fight, dedicated to the history of Volga Bulgaria, merry Sabantuy, or pretend they are archaeologists.

The centerpiece of the festival is a contest and a gala concert “Successors of Söyembikä”, whose winners will receive a grand prize “Pearl of Velikiye Bolgary”.
