
Russian culture abroad: Fifth German-Russian Festival kicks off in Berlin
Fifth German-Russian Festival is running June 10-12, 2011 in Berlin.
This international holiday, which revived traditions of the German-Soviet Friendship Festival (ceased to exist in 1988), has been held since 2007.
This year the festival also celebrates several anniversary dates: 20th anniversary of Berlin-Moscow partnership, 50th anniversary of Dresden and St. Petersburg’s sister-city relationship, and also 50th anniversary of the first human’s flight into space.
Visitors will surely enjoy a multifaceted cultural program, concerts, wide choice of entertainment for children, sport competitions, numerous expositions and exhibition pavilions (Rossotrudnichestvo office in Germany also has its own pavilion).
June 8, on the eve of the festival’s opening, the Russian House of Science and Culture launched the “German-Russian Festival Day”, whose program featured a Berlin-Moscow videoconferencing, opening of the photo exhibition “Relations between two peoples: German-Russian Festival”, award ceremony of winners of the “Friends not just here and now” contest and the contest 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space, and a big concert which brought together musicians from Russia and Germany.
The festival has been organized by the “German-Russian Festival” society (Deutsch Russische Festtage e. V.). The event has been co-hosted by Russkiy Mir Foundation, “Gazprom-Germany” and Rossotrudnichestvo office in Germany.
