History and Culture: Monument to “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” to be erected in Kursk
A union of artists and sculptors of the city of Kursk turned to Kursk City Administration with a proposal to erect a monument to “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” to immortalize the first written record of exploits of people of Kursk.
– Not far off is the thousandth anniversary of our city and this monument will not only beautify Kursk on the threshold of the anniversary, but will become an artistic illustration of laborious history of our native city for the future generations, said the Head of the City Administration Nikolai Ovcharov.
The first record about Kursk dates back to 1032. It used to be the constituent of Chernigov Princedom, later Pereyaslavl and Novgorod-Severia Princedoms. In 1095 the ruler of Kursk was the son of Vladimir Monomakh – Izyaslav. People of Kursk also took part in the Battle of the Kalka River in 1223.
