Regions of Russia: “Lomonosov house” to open in Archangelsk

In Arkhangelsk the work is completed on restoration of a historic building of the Research and Education Center "Lomonosov house".

Two-storey outbuilding previously belonged to one of the urban estates of German village and represents a monument of history and culture of the mid 19^th century. The outbuilding itself is made   in the style of late classicism with elements of the Empire style. In the autumn, in front of the "Lomonosov house" a square will be laid out and a stele in honor of the great scientist will be erected.

According to the director of interregional Lomonosov Fund Galina Dobrunova, Research and Education Center will become the basis for all researchers of Lomonosov’s life from Arkhangelsk region and Russia. There will be conferences, seminars, round tables, and defense of theses, meetings with famous scientists, artists, famous guests of Pomorye. Two halls will house the exhibit about the life and work of Lomonosov, which has not existed in Arkhangelsk until now. There will be tours for schoolchildren, students and various population groups.

"Lomonosov house" will become a kind of informational and methodical center, which will develop guidelines for the study of biography and heritage of the great scientist.

- It is important to talk not only about the known facts of life of Mikhail Lomonosov and his discoveries, but also on the extent of his scientific thought. Many of the predictions of the scientist, made 250 years ago, are still relevant, but it is rarely mentioned, - said Galina Dobrunova.

The Research and Education Center "Lomonosov house" will open in September 2011.
