Memory of Russia: V International Festival of “Iron Castle” Military and Historical Reconstruction in Izborsk
August 6-7, 2011 in Izborsk takes place the V Jubilee International Festival of military-historical reconstruction of medieval culture the "Iron Castle". Chairman of the State Committee for Culture of the Pskov region Golyshev Alexander stressed that the "Iron Castle" better than any event fits into the plan of celebration of 1150th anniversary of Izborsk. The main reconstruction fights will unfold in September 2012.
One of the 2011 innovations was the organization of two camps instead of the usual one: the upper one at Truvorovo Castle and the lower one above the Gorodishchenskoye Lake. The squads include “warriors” recreating the European and Slavic cultures, respectively. Typically, according to organizers, their number is approximately equal.
For guests of the festival there is an entertainment program: medieval rides, massive battles inside the fortress, team competitions.
During the entire holiday there is a program for children: young spectators can not only watch the reconstruction, but also to take part in free workshops on sculpting in clay, on writing and reading in Old Russian language.
