Memory of Russia: 1812 battle reconstruction in Smolensk region

August 6, 2011 in Kardymovsk district, Smolensk region, takes place the reconstruction of one of the major battles of the 1812 war – the Battle of Lubino. It brought together 40 military-historical clubs of Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Ufa, as well as Belarus, Lithuania and Poland. August 7 the events will continue in Smolensk.

The Battle of Valutino-Lubino was the final part of the Battle of Smolensk, when was foiled the last attempt of Napoleon to drive a wedge between the Russian armies and destroy them one by one. As a result, the Russian forces joined at Soloviev crossing. For a few years large-scale reconstructions of the events of 1812 have been held in the region.
