History of Russia: “Romanovs. 400th anniversary of service to Russia” exhibition kicks off in Vladimir
On September 21 2011 Vladimir-Suzdal Museum Reserve staged an exhibition “Romanovs. 400th anniversary of service to Russia”. It has been organized within the upcoming celebrations of 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov (1613-2013) and 130th anniversary of establishment of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society (1882-2012).
This is a joint project undertaken by the charity foundation “Revival of Nikolo-Berlyukovsky Monastery”, Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society in the city of Vladimir and the State Vladimir-Suzdal Museum Reserve.
The exhibition puts on show over 100 photographs, where along with well-known portraits of members of the House of Romanov there is a series of images from private albums of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and close friends of the Tsar’s family.
Of particular interest is a series of photographs taken by the photographer P. A. Otsup at the infirmary in Tsarskoe Selo, where Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and her older daughters Olga and Tatyana were working from 1914 to 1917.
The uniqueness of the photo exhibition is proved by the fact that these pictures have never been intended for the wide public, here Romanovs are not touched by censorship.
