Society and Culture: International Congress “Culture as resource of modernization” underway in Ulyanovsk Region

International Congress “Culture as resource of modernization” is running in Ulyanovsk Region Sept. 23-28 2011. Forum has attracted experts of Council of Europe, European Parliament, European Commission, and UNESCO.

The program of the Congress includes meetings, conclusion of agreements, tens of concerts and performances involving prominent cultural workers of Russia and CIS states.

“The key purpose of congress is to set up in Ulyanovsk Region a venue for discussion of cultural issues and cultural policy at interstate and interregional levels. The main outcome of the event which is expected is introduction of changes into legislation in cultural field”, said Tamara Devyatkina, Ulyanovsk Region Government.

The program of the congress features over 20 “roundtables”, discussions and public lectures that will bring together Russian and international experts in the field of culture and cultural policy from CIS states and Europe. The congress will address the following themes: “New cultural policy of modernization”, “Creative industries, economics and sustainable development”, “New personnel for the culture of the future”, “Historical and cultural heritage: preservation, promotion, updating”, “Cultural transformation of urban environment”.

Residents of Ulyanovsk Region, guests and participants of the congress will enjoy a rich cultural program that is kicking off on September 23. As a part of the congress will be launched the International Assembly of Artists that will attract over 200 artists from Russia and CIS states.
