Premises of the future Presidential Library’s branch shown off in Cheboksary
September 21 2011, Cheboksary, within the framework of the Forum of Young Librarians of Russia was launched the inauguration ceremony of a new building of the National Library of the Chuvash Republic. Guests of the ceremony were shown the new building, where on one of the floors will open its doors the future branch of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.
The solemn ceremony was opened by the President of the Chuvash Republic M. V. Ignatyev. With welcoming addressed came up the Director of the Department of General Secretariat, RF Ministry of Culture Yu. A. Shubin.
The ceremony was followed by the tour to the library’s new building. Guests were ushered along corridors into halls which in the near future will also become electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library.
On the eve of the opening ceremony Deputy Director General S. M. Makeev said that the key purpose of the branch would be provision of equal access to information resources of the Chuvash Republic to all citizens of the country. He stressed that realization of this project would open up opportunities for building the common information space within the Russian Federation.
The inauguration was timed to the Fourth Forum of Young Librarians of Russia which is taking place in Cheboksary. Its participants - librarians of different systems, institutions and public associations from over twenty regions of Russia – were invited to the ceremony. Forum has also brought together representatives of the Presidential Library.
The agreement regarding opening of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library’s branch in the Chuvash Republic was signed in November 2009. At present underway is work which consists in digitization of materials of the National Library of the Chuvash Republic for increasing the national electronic holdings of the Presidential Library.
