The Presidential Library awarded a participant of the “World of Knowledge” film festival with a special prize

28 October 2011 in St. Petersburg Cinema House was held a ceremony of closing the VI International Film Festival “Mir Znaniy” (Russian: “World of Knowledge”) which had named the best authors of popular science films in 2010. The Presidential Library awarded one of the contestants with a special prize.

The expert group of the Presidential Library recognized the “Star Wars General” as the best film. The Director General Deputy of the Presidential Library K. N. Knyaginin presented Alexander Merzhanov, the film director, with a diploma and a special prize – a plaque in a form of an open book made especially for the event.

In the course of the ceremony the Presidential Library was awarded with a diploma of the Committee of the State Duma for Science and Science Intensive Technology “For implementation of innovative technology in the field of education and spread of scientific knowledge”. Also the library was granted the book “New economy. Innovative portrait of Russia” issued by the Committee.

The festival program included 25 films of Russian and foreign production. These are the movies revealing new areas in the modern scientific knowledge in the field of ethnography, medicine, biology, ecology, history and space. The grand prize of the festival was awarded to the film by Austrian directors D. Hissen and H. Ledger “St. Helen Mountain. Life from zero”.

The objective of the festival “World of Knowledge” is to revive interest for science popular cinema. Its organizers are: “Lennauchfilm” film studio, “V mire nauki” (Russian: “In the world of science”) journal and TV program “Ochevidnoye - neveroyatnoye” (Russian: “Evident - unbelievable”) whose author and anchorman S. P. Kapitsa presides the festival.

The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Film Festival for the third year in a row. According to the tradition, the Library awards one of the films with a special prize.
