Russian language abroad: World Thematic Conference of Compatriots “On the Status of Russian Language in Foreign Countries”

The World Thematic Conference of Compatriots “On the Status of Russian Language in Foreign Countries” is running October 17-18 2011 in Moscow. The conference has been co-organized by the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Federal Agency on the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).

The conference has attracted heads of public associations of compatriots from 92 countries of the world, representatives of federal legislative and executive bodies and regions of the Russian Federation, Russian academic circles and NGOs. On agenda are the following issues:

- The legal status of Russian language abroad,

- Opportunities to get education in Russian language in countries where compatriots live,

- The concept of Russian school abroad.
