Regions of Russia: Winter Arts Festival in celebration of 164th birth anniversary of Russian artist Vasily Surikov underway in Krasnoyarsk

The Sixth Winter Arts Festival in celebration of 164th birth anniversary of the Russian artist Vasily Surikov kicked off on December 26th 2011. 

A month-long festival will traditionally include various spectacular events: performances, concerts, art exhibitions and other creative projects. It will run in theatres and libraries, museums and concert halls, musical, art and comprehensive schools.

Exhibitions focusing on the oeuvre and life of Vasily Surikov were launched on December 26th in the city’s libraries.

Festival in January will be also eventful and continue the series of December festival events.

Following the tradition, the festival will wind up on the birthday of the great artist on January 24th 2011. On this day citizens hold “A Bow to Surikov” action. At 12 p.m. in four different sites of the city flowers will be laid to monuments and busts of Vasily Surikov in commemoration and recognition of the great master.

The festival will feature over 100 events. Again it promises to become a spectacular holiday which unites talented and curious residents of Krasnoyarsk.
