Presidential Library sums up the results of Olympiad’s first round
The first round of “Russia in the digital world” interactive Olympiad ran by the Presidential Library has come to a close. The second round will bring together senior pupils and students of basic and secondary vocational institutions from 54 regions of the Russian Federation.
The Olympiad’s website has attracted over 20 000 users – an almost threefold increase year-on-year. The youth from 80 regions of Russia have registered on the portal of the Olympiad to join the first round. This year there have been three times as many contestants as the last year totaling 4 000.
Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Penza and Nizhny Novgorod Regions, St. Petersburg and Moscow, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Udmurt Republic and Krasnodar Krai have become the leaders judging by the number of contestants who had successfully completed the tasks of the first round and moved to the second.
First two rounds of the Olympiad are virtual, thus pupils from distant areas of Russia as well as handicapped children are free to join the Olympiad. This year the Olympiad has again attracted children from Penza Distant Education Center for Handicapped Children, while the last year finalist – a pupil of this center, has successfully coped with tasks and entered the second round.
This year the Olympiad’s questions cover two subjects: History of Russia and Social Studies. To answer some of them contestants need to study textbooks of 19th – first half of 20th cc. available in “Textbooks on the History of Russia” and “Reference books” sections on Olympiad’s portal.
The second round of “Russia in the digital world” Olympiad is running from December 19th 2011 till January 30th 2012. Finalists will be invited to St. Petersburg. The Presidential Library will hold the final round and the award ceremony.
