Regions of Russia: Exhibit on history of island-city of Sviyazhsk underway in Elabuga
On December 14th 2011 the Exhibition Hall of Elabuga State Museum-Reserve launched a new exposition “Island-City of Sviyazhsk Reflected in Time” which is a part of a cultural heritage project underway in Tatarstan. This exhibition devoted to 460th anniversary of the City-Island of Sviyazhsk, debuted in Zelenodolsk. It presents paintings of leading artists from Kazan, Saransk, Zelenodolsk, Bugulma, Leninogorsk and other cities of the republic.
Since 2010 Tatarstan has been implementing a project known as “Cultural Heritage: Ancient City of Bolghar and Island-City of Sviyazhsk”. Both monuments have a national significance, while revival of Sviyazhsk is to become a symbol of preservation of history, culture and spiritual heritage of our region and Russia as a whole.
The island-city is by right considered as one of the most important cultural and historical centers of the Republic of Tatarstan. Here have remained unique artefacts, historical rarities, works of art and architecture, which are not only studied by historians, archaeologists and art critics, but make the pride of people of the Republic.
The key purpose of “Island-City of Sviyazhsk Reflected in Time” exhibition is to attract the attention of public to the problems of revival of magnificent monuments.
