Internet and society: Russia retains its European leadership by the number of Internet users

Russia maintains its lead by the number of unique Internet users among the European countries, according to the statistical report of the ComScore of November 2011.

According to the ComScore report, the Russian Internet audience in November 2011 amounted to 52, 486 million users over the age of 15 years. On average, every Russian user in November spent 24.5 hours in the web and browsed about 2.73 thousands of web pages.

Russia has become the European leader by the number of Internet users, according to ComScore, in September, leaving behind the former leader, Germany. Currently, the Internet audience in Germany accounts for 50, 856 million unique users. The gap between the number of Internet users in the two countries has increased by 0,93 million persons.

ComScore also released a list of 15 fastest-growing Internet-projects in Europe. The leader among them is the Kingfisher project whose audience has increased by 21%. The penultimate place occupies the Russian "Rambler", which increased its audience in November by 5% compared to October, from 22, 565 million to 23, 596 million users.

According to ComScore, 50% of all European Internet users visit news sites. The leader of information websites in November became that of Mail Online with 20, 068 million users. The eighth and the tenth place in the ranking of sites are occupied by the websites of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" paper (7,233 million visitors) and the site of the RIA Novosti news agency (6, 182 million visitors), respectively.

According to ComScore statistics, global Internet audience in November amounted to 1,438 billion unique users, 379.4 million of which accounted for Europe. On average, in November, Europeans spent 27.8 hours online and browsed 2, 982 web pages each.
