Marking the International Native Language Day: Events in the regions of Russia

International Native Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO on 17 November 1999 and is celebrated annually on February 21 in order to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education, as well as the development of a better acquaintance with the language and cultural traditions around the world.

February 21- 28, 2012 the V. D. Fedorov Kemerovo Regional Scientific Library hosts "The Native Language Week" in the context of "The Dialogue of Cultures and Literatures."

"The Native Language Week" will include a number of important and interesting events.

February 21 opens a comprehensive exhibition under the title "The Kuznetsk Basin Native Languages," revealing to visitors the literature in various languages of the multinational Kuznetsk Basin. There is also a photo and ethnographic exhibition, which presents traditional costumes and objects of arts and crafts.

February 22 will be a lecture-tour on the ancient history of the Slavs "Trislav-warrior", as well as the presentation of the "The Kuznetsk Basin Ukrainians Customs and Traditions."

February 27 will be presented the "National Wear of the Kuznetsk Basin Peoples". "The Native Language Week" will end February 28 by the presentation of the national public organizations of the city of Kemerovo and a concert of artists of national groups.

In addition, February 21, 2012 the Novosibirsk State Regional Scientific Library holds events to celebrate International Native Language Day. There will be a roundtable discussion attended by representatives of regional and international cultural centers "On the world's practices and programs in support of the state languages and multilingualism in the countries of near and far abroad," and a public lecture on the Russian language "Preservation of the Native Language - Preservation of History and Identity of the People."
