18 February 2012

17 February to 4 March 2012, the "Manege" Central Exhibition Hall (St. Petersburg) hosts the exhibition "The Light of Dionysius Frescoes - to the World." This project was initiated in 2006 and implemented at exhibition platforms of museums, galleries, exhibition halls and temples in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities. Since January 201.1 most of the works had been exhibited at the Museum of the Christ the Savior Cathedral. In December 2011 - January 2012 the exhibition was held at the Almeze Gallery (Italy).

"The Light of Dionysius Frescoes - to the World" is at the forefront of a new trend that defines the modern language and plasticity in the representation of inaccessible masterpieces of ancient fresco painting to a wide audience of the 21st century. At the core of the xposition are original works by photographer Yu. I. Holdin from the series "The Ferapontov Monastery frescoes ", created in 1995-2002. Thanks to the innovative development of the physics of light and the chromatics, the author reached a high level of reproduction of the original material. The works of the outstanding Old Russian artist Dionysus - the paintings of the Nativity of the Virgin Church of the Ferapontov Monastery – have taken on new life.
