6 February 2012

A new exhibition “Carlo Gavazzeni Ricordi. Imaginary Theatres in Rome” is running in the State Hermitage Museum from February 4th up to March 30th 2012. The exhibition, which is a result of cooperation between the State Hermitage Museum and “Il Cigno GG Edizioni” publishing house lets visitors discover the works of a contemporary Italian artist-photographer Carlo Gavazzeni Ricordi.

Gavazzeni is keen on taking photographs of cities and city views. His art has got a long tradition in works of old Italian masters. To create his panoramas he uses the state-of-the-art photography equipment, matches different angles, and, besides, he actively uses the contrasts of light and shadow and color. All this makes his photographs look like paintings.

About thirty works were selected for the exhibition. Most of the photographs which entered the exposition have been taken in the interiors of the Villa Torlonia Theatre near Rome. The building made to the design of the architect Quintiliano Raimondi in the middle of 19th c. in classicism, has for many years remained neglected and not so long ago was again put in order.

Several photographs put on display within the exhibition show the Villa Medici where the French Academy in Rome is located.

Works by Carlo Gavazzeni Ricordi let you take a fresh look at Rome – the eternal city which always attracts the attention of tourists and admirers of the antique.
