Regions of Russia: St. Petersburg artists’ exhibit “Veliky Ustyug collection” underway in Moscow

29 March 2012

An exhibition of St. Petersburg artists called “Veliky Ustyug collection” kicked off on March 28 2012 at the Federation Council in Moscow.

Yuri Vorobyov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, said that it was a good tradition to hold such exhibitions, which glorify cities and regions of our country, at the Federation Council. The current exposition is devoted to Veliky Ustyug – the oldest town of the Russian North, which has preserved its unique identity and traditions. Yuri Vorobyov expressed the hope that this project will go on and promised to support the future travel of artists to Baikal.

Organizers of the exhibition say that summer 2011 saw the 8th “Visiting holy places” project – a travel to Veliky Ustyug, which was organized by St. Petersburg Center for Art in partnership with St. Petersburg City Administration, St. Petersburg Committee for Culture, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyov and Vologda Region Government.

The project has attracted 33 artists. The purpose of this travel was to create a collection featuring views of the city and its suburbs. Paintings and drawings enlarge collections of Russian museums, which are visited by artists.

The inauguration ceremony brought together members of the Federation Council, artists and organizers of “Visiting holy places” project.
