IT and Culture: The Bolshoi Theatre launches ballet webcasts for Russia’s Internet users

On March 11th 2012 the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow) is broadcasting “Le Corsaire” ballet on Internet and at the cinema. Spectators from Russia will have a chance to see the webcast that will run on the theatre’s channel on YouTube.

The Bolshoi Theatre began broadcasting its ballets in March 2010. Cinemas in France showed “Flames of Paris” ballet. About 2.2 million cinemagoers in 22 countries of the world – from Singapore to Brazil - have watched ballets of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre.

Ballet webcasts of Bolshoi Theatre will be enabled by Google Russia, and two French companies Bel Air Media and Pathe. The Bolshoi Theatre’s first webcast debuted on October 28th 2011 – during the inauguration of the theatre’s historical stage which had been undergoing reconstruction for 6 years.

Following “Le Corsaire” the Bolshoi Theatre will webcast “The Limpid Stream” (April 29th), “Raymonda” (June 24th), “Lost Illusions” (September 30th), “The Pharaoh’s Daughter” (November 25th).
