Peoples of Russia: Festival of indigenous peoples of Russian North opened in Saint-Petersburg
A festival of the program of the only in Russia festival of indigenous peoples of the North “Alluring worlds. Ethnic Russia” opened in Saint-Petersburg.
During four days residents of Saint-Petersburg will learn about traditions of rare peoples who together are a unique ethnic map of Russia.
The festival is attended by representatives of ten indigenous northern peoples - Itelmen, Nenets, Saami, Chukchi, Eskimos, Even, Evenk, Koryak, Altai and Kumandinians. For the first time, they were joined by representatives of indigenous peoples of the North Caucasus.
Culture of northern peoples is represented in Saint-Petersburg from August 29 to 31, and the festival "Alluring Worlds. Ethnic Russia" started in the International Day of Indigenous People (August 9) on the shore of the Sea of Okhotsk tin Kamchatka village Kovran. During the tour, "The Road of Memory" program of the festival will be also presented in Murmansk and Severomorsk on the Solovetsky Islands. The event is held as part of the Cultural Olympiad "Sochi 2014".
