International events: APEC Ministerial meeting on Communication and Information opened in Saint-Petersburg

The head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of Russia Nikolay Nikiforov opened on August 7, 2012 in Saint-Petersburg the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the countries of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on communication and information. In his speech the Russian minister welcomed colleagues and outlined the main topics of the meeting.

The Ministerial Meeting of APEC in the field of ​​communication and information are held every two years. On the eve of this year summit organization in Vladivostok (September 1-8) the 9th Ministerial Meeting was adopted by the northern capital of Russia. The forum will last for two days, during which the heads of branches will discuss the development of e-government, reducing of the digital divide, the problem of cyber security, and other relevant topics.

The outcome of the meeting, according to Nikolai Nikiforov, will be a document containing the main directions of international activities in the field of communications and information technology. It will be known as the Saint-Petersburg Declaration.
