International events: Exhibition, dedicated to the Year of Germany in Russia, in Yekaterinburg
A new exhibition, dedicated to the Year of Germany in Russia is open on August 2, 2012 in the Sverdlovsk regional local museum (Yekaterinburg) with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk region.
The exhibition «Glück auf! Four centuries of Russian-German cooperation in the Urals" tells about relationship of citizens of the two great nations. At the heart of the exhibition are exhibits of the Sverdlovsk regional local museum, the original archival documents of the XVIII - XXI centuries, the materials of expeditions "In the footsteps of Alexander von Humboldt in Russia", paintings of the Ural artists. The authors of the exposition undertook a difficult attempt to present the historical path of the Ural Germans, not avoiding difficult issues, such as, for example, repressions against German citizens in the 1940s, or fates of prisoners of war. Yet the fundamental idea of the project is the effective cooperation of Russian and German peoples. A vivid confirmation of this may serve materials relating to relations of Germany and the Urals in the XXI century.
An integral part of the exhibition is a photo exhibition of works by Jürgen Strauss – a participant of the expedition "In the footsteps of the Alexander von Humboldt in Russia". During the trips he has made an extensive series of photographs depicting the Ural and Altai, and their nature, and memorable places associated with the "Aristotle of the XIX century" with Humboldt.
The exhibition will be open for visitors until 21 September and 20 September 2012 and as part of a meeting there will be held the Round Table "Russian-German relations in the Urals: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" with the participation of scientists from Germany and Russia.
