Book history: “The Book as Art. 20th anniversary of “The Rare Book from St. Petersburg” Publishing House” exhibition

September 12, 2012 at the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) opens “The Book as Art. 20th anniversary of "The Rare Book from St. Petersburg” Publishing House” exhibition.

At display there are about 30 editions - rare books made by masters of the publishing house "The Rare Book from St. Petersburg."

“The Rare Book of St. Petersburg" publishing house was founded in 1991. Its goal was to revive in Russia the lost art of hand-made, bibliophile book, the book that would be created as a piece of art. The number of copies begins from one and, as a rule, does not exceed twenty-five.

The book of this publishing house make part of the collections of the State Hermitage, the Cabinet of Prints in Berlin, the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the State Museum "Peterhof"; they could also be found in the National Library of Russia, the National Library of Bavaria in Munich, the Public Library in New York.
