History and culture: Letters of Alexander I and Napoleon displayed in France
"The Russian Campaign" exhibition, which opened on September 8, 2012 in Valance castle, Loire Valley, is devoted to the diplomatic history of the War of 1812. The exhibition features letters of Alexander I and Napoleon, held by the Russian State Archives.
"The correspondence between the French and the Russian emperor did not stop even during the war, noted Marc du Puget, director of Indre archives. - The content of these messages is known to historians, but it is the first time the French public will see the originals of the documents."
The venue of the exposure has not been chosen at random. In the Napoleonic era Valance was one of the three largest estates in France. From the early 19th century, it belonged to Charles Maurice Talleyrand, who played a prominent role in the diplomatic history of the war of 1812.
Exhibition in Valence is part of the memorial program timed to the 200th anniversary of the events of 1812.
