
Memory of Russia abroad: Exhibition “Year 1812: The feat of the people in the memory of the Foreign Russia” in Moscow
From September 3 to October 1, 2012 the Russian foreign House of A. Solzhenitsyn invites to the exhibition “Year 1812: The feat of the people in the memory of the Foreign Russia”.
The exhibition of the Russian foreign House is timed to the 200th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. It is unique not only with thematically but also substantially. The specificity of the exhibition is that the heroic struggle of the people and the army against foreign invaders is presented in the light of national identity of post-October emigration.
More than two hundred objects, documents, books from the collections of Russian foreign house are selected for the exhibition. The material is grouped into four conventional divisions. The first of them is the "King's Corner". It concentrated on the most valuable historical monuments related to the names of the Russian Emperor Alexander I and Alexander II.
Another section of the exhibition is "stored values", it shows what exiles took when leaving Russia or collected already in exile on the topic in 1812. These are albums with lithographs, pictures, rare editions of books, periodicals. A complete set of "North-mail, or the New St. Petersburg newspaper" for the years 1812-1813 (including - number from June 19, 1812 with the direction of Alexander I to invade the enemy in the Russian Empire and the declaration of a holy war of liberation) is truly unique.
A particular attention is drawn to the portrait gallery of distinguished statesmen, military and public figures of Russia - the Patriotic War (1865). Gorgeous albums and collections of reproductions are released in 1912 to the 100th anniversary of the war, such as "Invasion of Napoleon", by S. M. Prokudin-Gorsky.
The department of documents and publications is extremely rich. The correspondence of officers-immigrants - Guards union members (France, 1962) is characterized. It reflects their serious preparation to the 150th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812. How the celebration was held, according to the "Bulletin of the Association of the Guard" (Paris), is represented by the letters.
The topic of 1812 did not leave indifferent the periodical of the emigration: newspapers, magazines, almanacs. Visitors of the exhibition will not only see, but also be able to read the publication in the "Illustrated Russia", "Chimes", "Time", "Russian Invalid", "The military was" and other publications.
