Internet and society: Conference “The small man in a virtual world” in Moscow

November 30, 2012 the Russian State Children’s Library in Moscow hosts the round table “The small man in a virtual world”.

The round table is held first after the entry into force of the Federal Law “On Protection of children from information, harmful to their health and development”.

 Its purpose is to draw public attention to the problem, to identify the most efficient ways to protect children in the Internet, to develop practical recommendations on the application of the law on children protection from the harmful information.

Topics of the round table:

• Strategies to protect children in the Internet;

• Legal side of the issue;

• Technical aspects of child safety in the Internet;

• The role of telecom operators and service providers to provide secure access to the network;

• National interests in international cooperation on the protection of young people in the Internet;

• Ways and forms of literacy of users of the Internet;

• The interaction of public and private organizations in the context of the identified problems.

The discussion is attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Council of the Federation, the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, the UN representatives, the UNICEF and other international organizations, as well as publishers, librarians, educators and representatives of the public institutions.
