History of Russia abroad: Exhibition “Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem – 165” in Saint-Petersburg
November 1, 2012 at the main building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) in the framework of the «VII Zagrebinskye readings» opens an exhibition “Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem – 165”.
The exhibition presents unique editions from the archives of the National Library of Russia and the Russian Spiritual Mission. Among the exhibits there are pre-revolutionary guide books to the Holy land and editions dedicated to the history of RSM and pilgrimage to Palestine as well as editions of research works of leaders of the Russian Spiritual Mission: Bishop Porphyry (Uspensky), Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin), Leonid (Kavelin).
The exposition presents the report of priesthood Victor (Ostrovidov) read at the Missionary Congress in Kiev in 1908 on the situation of the RSM as well as the most valuable manuscripts: letters of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin) to his predecessor Archimandrite Leonid (Kavelin), researchers I. V. Pomualovsky, A. S. Norov, letters of Archimandrite Leonid (Sentsov), who led the 7th Mission, the recent appointed by the Holy Synod of the Russian Empire.
The visitors of the exhibition will be able to see manuscripts from the collection of the Bishop Leonid (Kapustin), acquired by the Imperial Public Library and now stored in the Manuscript Department of the National Library of Russia.
The exhibition will run till November 15.
