Information technology and libraries: Unique medicine issues are digitized
“Electronic Archive” Corporation has completed a project on digitization of the most valuable books from the Fundamental Library of the St. Petersburg State Medical University of Pavlov. The works were carried out to ensure the safety of publications and the organization of access to rare editions.
The processed information resource presents rare medical books of the XVI - XVII centuries. Among them are well-known work of the eastern scientist and physician Avicenna's "Canon of Medicine", published in 1555 in Venice. Old books were digitized on equipment by ELAR PlanSkan "C" series, designed for gentle scanning folios.
The Fundamental Library of the State Medical University was founded in 1897 by well-known book gifts of medical scientists. At the moment, the fund of rare books consists of more than 4000 copies in Russian and foreign languages. Among these publications, owned by Sechenov, are books autographed by Pavlov, S. P. Botkin, K. A. Timiryazev, and etc. In the past year, the “Electronic Archive” Corporation implemented a project to catalog retro conversion of the Fundamental Library of the university.
