Archives of Russia: Documentary heritage of Nikolai Vavilov is presented in Moscow
December 11, 2012 the Exhibition Hall of the Archives of RAS in Moscow opened a documentary exhibition “Expeditions and travels of Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov”, prepared by the Archive of the RAS together with the N. I. Vavilov Memorial Cabinet-Museum.
The exhibition is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the scientist-geneticist, botanist, breeder Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov.
The exposition, based on documents from private holdings of the Archive of the RAS and the N. I. Vavilov Memorial Cabinet-Museum, first presents original documents about expedition work of N. I. Vavilov, taking the central place in his research activities; totally it is about 150 exhibits. Among them – a large number of photographs taken by Vavilov personally in different parts of the world; route maps of expeditions; postcards and letters of the scientist from expedition places, sent by Vavilov to his colleagues; samples of seeds of cereals, texts of scientific reports, published works of the scientist.
