Society and culture: Exhibition “No barriers. Russian art. 1985–2000” in Saint-Petersburg
December 5, 2012 at the Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg) opened an exhibition “Without barriers. Russian Art of 1985-2000.”
The exhibition aims to introduce the domestic art of the critical period, which was in the history of the country in the end of the XX century. The exposition is based on the works of painting and sculpture – art forms that have undergone then the most significant changes. This choice is dictated by the specifics of the Russian Museum as well as the ability to identify specific contrasts for art of 1985-2000 and to suppress traditions and innovations.
Thus, the exposition “without barriers” combines works of masters of different generations, directions and ideological orientations in the wide range of content and style. Works from the collection of the Russian Museum are complemented with exhibits provided by the workshops of artists as well as private collections of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.
