Memorable dates of Russia: Events dedicated to the 165th anniversary of Russian painter Vasily Surikov, in Krasnoyarsk

January 24, 2013 in the V. I. Surikov Krasnoyarsk Art Museum opens the exhibition “V. I. Surikov and his teachers”, dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian artist Vasily Ivanovich Surikov. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the State Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg), the V. I. Surikov Krasnoyarsk Local History Museum and Museum estate with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk region.

The main part of the exposition makes up 28 works from the collections of the State Russian Museum. Among them there are works by outstanding teachers of the Academy of Arts of the second half of the XIX century: Bruni, Vereshchagin, Chistyakov and others. For the first time in Krasnoyarsk there will be exhibited unique early works by Surikov, which most fully reflect the period of the psrofessional development of the artist.

In addition to paintings and drawings, the exhibition features family photographs of Siberian artist – “Photo Album of the family Surikovs” from the collections of the Krasnoyarsk local history museum. The exhibition will run till March 31, 2013.

Also from January 23 to 25, 2013 the Krasnoyarsk Regional Scientific Library hosts the All-Russian Scientific-Practical conference “Surikovskiye readings”. Art critics, historians and representatives of museums and universities of Russia and Krasnoyarsk discuss issues of Russian art of the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries and the works by the great painter. Much attention at the conference is paid to the art of Siberia.
