Internet and culture: The Code of Book Monuments of Russia is now available in the web

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation reports about the organization of the access to the National Code of Book Monuments. The Code is available at the web site “Book monuments of the Russian Federation”.

The National Code of Book Monuments is the information retrieval system, containing the database of bibliographic and book nature about the documents and collections with the properties of book monuments. The Code is the basis for state registration of book monuments in the Register of book monuments of the Russian Federation. The Book Monuments are called manuscript books and printed editions with outstanding spiritual or material value and of particular scientific, cultural and historical significance. 

The work on the formation of the Code is under the “Guidelines on the development of the conservation of library holdings of Russia for 2011-2020” with the financial support of the federal target program “Culture of Russia”. Since 2011 the work on the formation of the Code is coordinated by the Russian State Library. The content of the Code deals with the help of specialists of libraries, museums and universities, which own the largest collections of book monuments, as well as representatives of central libraries of the regions of the Russian Federation.

The Code includes more than 50 thousand of machine-readable records to separate samples and book collections.
