In the German town Jülich it is officially launched the most powerful supercomputer in Europe, whose productivity is 5.9 petaflops, or 5.9 thousand trillion calculations per second. This was reported in the city located research center. Scientists note that the power of this system “accelerated” step by step over the past few months and only now reached its limit.

Processors of supercomputer, called JuQueen, have totally almost 459 thousand cores. In this case, they have been developed using energy-saving technologies. The cooling system is using streams of water at 18 degrees.

Experts point out that the car is about 100 thousand times more powerful than most of the modern personal computer.

Thus, JuQueen much looked up from SuperMuc (3 petaflops), which was launched on July 20, 2012 at the Leibniz Computing Center in Garching near Munich. “The new development is 2 times more powerful computer in Garching”, - noted the deputy director of the center in Jülich Norbert Attih. According to him, the new product will be used, in particular, for the study of processes in the human brain, as well as for the study of climate changes.

Two the most powerful computers in the world are in the U.S. - Titan Cray XK47 (17, 59 petaflops) and Sequoia BlueGene (16, 33 petaflops). The third place goes to the Japanese EVM-computer with 10, 51 petaflops. Performance of the best Russian computer “Lomonosov” from the Moscow State University equals to only 1.7 petaflops, which allows it to be on the 26th place. The commissioned JuQueen rounds out the top five.
