Internet and society: The World Safer Internet Day is celebrated

February 5, the world celebrates the Safer Internet Day. Its main objective is to provide public with knowledge of the safe use of Internet technology.

The holiday was established in 2004 by the European Commission, in Russia it is celebrated since 2005. By tradition, the World Safer Internet Day is held every Tuesday of February. The coordinator of the holiday is a non-profit organization Insafe. This year the topic of the holiday is “The rights and obligations in the Web”.

A special attention in Russia is now paid to children’s safety in the Web. One of the last projects of the authorities to protect children from unlawful web content became a single register of banned web sites, the official web site of which started its work on November 1, 2012.
